About the Role:

Are you passionate about creating safer workplaces and promoting a positive safety culture? National Care Group is looking for an experienced Health and Safety Business Manager to join our team and lead the way in ensuring the highest standards of health, safety, and well-being across our organisation.

In this key role, you’ll work closely with operational teams, senior leaders, and stakeholders to provide expert advice, guidance, and assurance on all aspects of health and safety. You’ll help embed a strong safety culture and ensure full compliance with sector regulations, current legislation, and best practices.

We’re looking for someone proactive, collaborative, and solutions-focused—ready to drive continuous improvement and make a real impact in how we manage health, safety, and well-being across our services.

What You’ll Do:

  • Acting as the lead advisor on all health and safety matters, driving the strategy and supporting managers in implementing safe systems of work.
  • Ensuring effective systems and processes are in place so that all colleagues and representatives operate safely and in full compliance with legislation, regulatory standards, contracts, and internal policies.
  • Advising colleagues at all levels, working closely with the Chief Quality and Risk Officer to meet organisational and legal obligations.
  • Monitoring and responding to changes in legislation and best practices to ensure continued compliance and innovation in our approach.
  • Collaborating across departments to champion a strong safety culture and build understanding of individual responsibilities in health and safety.
  • Developing, implementing, and reviewing health and safety policies, procedures, and risk assessments aligned with legal and organisational requirements.
  • Leading on fire safety across the organisation, providing practical advice and support to services and offices.
  • Liaising with housing partners to ensure timely resolution of property-related safety matters.
  • Managing relationships with external health and safety partners and advisors where applicable.
  • Overseeing compliance across all residential services and offices within the National Care Group estate.
  • Conducting audits, inspections, and incident investigations, identifying improvements and ensuring legal compliance.
  • Visiting services and offices to provide in-person advice, support, and oversight.
  • Supporting development and delivery of training programs to ensure all colleagues are equipped with the right knowledge and skills.
  • Reviewing incident data via RADAR, identifying trends and initiating actions where needed.
  • Establishing and leading the National Care Group Health and Safety Committee.
  • Advising on risk management and prevention strategies within social care settings.
  • Acting as the main point of contact for external agencies on health and safety matters.
  • Promoting a proactive, organisation-wide approach to risk management and embedding a culture of safety.
  • Supporting any other health and safety matters as directed.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent qualification) in health and safety.
  • Proven experience working in health and safety within a social care or multi-site environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of UK health and safety legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work Act, COSHH, RIDDOR, and Manual Handling Regulations.
  • Experience in producing and presenting reports to senior leaders or board-level audiences.
  • A strong commitment to and understanding of equality, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace.
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out incident investigations and analyse outcomes effectively.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the confidence to engage and advise stakeholders at all levels.
  • A collaborative mindset, ready to work closely with others as part of the wider Quality Team.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, capable of developing practical, evidence-based solutions.
  • Great organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • The ability to present complex information clearly and accessibly to a range of audiences.
